Automation Engineer

Location: Limerick | Full-Time | Permanent

Salary: €70,000 – €80,000 DOE + Benefits

A specialist automation and machine-building company delivering bespoke manufacturing equipment and integrated automation solutions for leading medical device, pharmaceutical and life sciences organisations.

The business designs, builds and commissions custom machinery, working on highly regulated projects where precision, innovation and technical excellence are critical. Due to continued growth and increasing project demand, they are looking to strengthen their controls and automation team with an experienced Automation Engineer.


THE ROLE:

This is a senior Automation Engineer position with responsibility for developing and delivering control systems for bespoke automation projects.

You'll work across the full project lifecycle, taking ownership of automation design, programming, commissioning and technical problem-solving activities.

  • Design and develop automation and control systems for bespoke machinery
  • Program PLCs, HMIs, motion control and vision systems
  • Develop electrical and hardware control system designs
  • Support machine build, testing and factory acceptance activities
  • Carry out commissioning and troubleshooting activities on customer sites
  • Work closely with mechanical, electrical and manufacturing teams
  • Develop technical documentation and support validation activities
  • Lead automation aspects of projects and provide technical guidance when required


THE PERSON:

This role will suit an experienced Automation Engineer or Controls Engineer who enjoys working autonomously and taking ownership of technically challenging projects.

Candidates from machine building, special purpose machinery, manufacturing automation or systems integration environments are particularly well suited.

  • Experience as an Automation Engineer, Controls Engineer or Control Systems Engineer
  • Strong PLC programming experience
  • Experience with HMI, SCADA, vision systems and industrial networks
  • Background in machine building, automation or manufacturing environments
  • Electrical or electronic engineering qualification preferred
  • Degree qualified in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics or a related discipline
  • Strong troubleshooting and commissioning experience
  • Comfortable managing projects and working independently
