External Sales Representative – Building Materials

€50,000–€60,000 Base + 20% Bonus | Company Car | Pension | Laptop | 21 Days Holiday

The Company

An established and leading supplier of building materials, serving construction professionals and trade customers across Ireland.

With a strong market position and a comprehensive product portfolio, the business supplies materials to contractors and subcontractors working across residential and commercial construction projects. They are now looking to appoint an External Sales Representative to develop customer relationships and grow sales across Dublin.

The Role

This is a field-based sales position managing an established portfolio of customers, while identifying opportunities to develop new business throughout Dublin, predominantly across the southside.

You'll work with contractors and subcontractors involved in residential and commercial construction, building relationships with site managers, business owners and procurement contacts.

Approximately 60% of the role will focus on account management, with the remainder dedicated to developing new customers and increasing sales across your territory.

You'll inherit a portfolio of approximately 80 customers, giving you a strong foundation to build from. You'll also benefit from a sales structure where purchases made by your customers through other branches can contribute to your sales performance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage and develop an established portfolio of customer accounts
  • Build relationships with contractors, subcontractors and construction professionals
  • Identify opportunities to increase sales and grow existing accounts
  • Develop new business across Dublin, particularly the southside
  • Promote a broad range of building materials and construction supplies
  • Meet customers on site and understand their project requirements
  • Identify opportunities with new and dormant customers
  • Monitor account performance and work towards agreed sales targets
  • Plan customer visits and manage your territory effectively

Career Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business with a strong reputation in the construction supply market.

You'll inherit an existing customer base and receive product training, allowing you to build your knowledge while focusing on developing relationships and growing revenue.

The role offers a good balance of account management and new business development, with the autonomy to manage your territory and make a direct impact on sales performance.

The Person

We're looking for a confident and commercially minded salesperson with experience in field sales and customer relationship management.

Experience within building materials or construction supplies would be advantageous, but it isn't essential. Candidates from other B2B or B2C sales backgrounds will also be considered, provided they can demonstrate strong sales ability, a positive attitude and the motivation to succeed.

You'll ideally have:

  • Previous field sales experience
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills
  • Experience managing customer accounts and identifying sales opportunities
  • Good commercial awareness and confidence discussing pricing
  • The ability to develop new business and grow existing accounts
  • A highly organised approach to planning customer visits
  • A proactive, personable and professional manner
  • The motivation to work independently and achieve sales targets

Product training will be provided, so attitude, sales ability and the willingness to learn are key.

The Package

  • €50,000–€60,000 basic salary , with flexibility up to €65,000 for relevant industry experience
  • 20% performance-related bonus
  • Company car
  • Pension
  • Laptop and mobile phone
  • 21 days' annual leave
  • Product training and ongoing support

Location

Dublin – predominantly the southside

This is a fully field-based position, with regular travel to customer sites throughout Dublin. Candidates should be based within a reasonable commuting distance of the territory.
