Category Manager / Business Development Manager

€80,000–€90,000 base plus bonus, car/car allowance, up to 10% employer pension contribution, 24 days’ holiday, and additional benefits.

The Company

Our client is a long-established Irish business operating within the construction and plumbing products sector. The business has a strong presence in the Irish market and is part of a wider established group with significant experience across the building services and plumbing industries.

The company is continuing to evolve its offering, moving towards a broader solutions-based approach and investing in new products and technologies to strengthen its position in the market.

The Role

This is a senior role within the business focusing on launching and developing a new product category across the Irish market.

The successful candidate will take ownership of building awareness, developing customer relationships, and establishing the new offering as a recognised product choice within the market.

The role will work closely with plumbing and builders’ merchants, buying groups, and other relevant retail channels. There will be responsibility for engaging at both head-office and branch level, working with senior decision-makers while also ensuring strong product awareness and engagement at store level.

The role will initially cover the 26 counties, with some activity across Northern Ireland. The successful candidate will have significant scope to shape the market strategy and leverage existing customer relationships.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing the go-to-market strategy for a new product category.
  • Building awareness and demand across the Irish market.
  • Developing relationships with buying groups and major merchant customers.
  • Engaging with senior decision-makers at head-office level.
  • Building strong relationships at branch and store level.
  • Developing existing customer relationships to create new commercial opportunities.
  • Driving product awareness, training, and recommendation across the customer base.
  • Identifying market opportunities and developing routes to market.
  • Working closely with internal teams to shape the category strategy.
  • Monitoring market feedback and using customer insight to support future growth.

Career Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful Irish business at an exciting stage of its development.

The successful candidate will have genuine influence over the launch and development of a new product category, rather than stepping into an established territory with a fixed customer base.

The role offers significant autonomy and the opportunity to help shape the market strategy, develop existing relationships, and establish a new offering within the Irish plumbing and construction market.

It would suit an ambitious commercial professional who enjoys working strategically while remaining close to customers and the market.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have strong commercial experience within the construction, plumbing, building products, or wider building services sector.

Experience selling to buying groups and major merchants at head-office level is particularly important, alongside the ability to build relationships at individual branch level.

The right person will be:

  • Commercially ambitious and focused on growth.
  • Confident engaging with C-suite and senior commercial stakeholders.
  • Experienced in developing relationships with buying groups and merchants.
  • Comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels.
  • Resilient and adaptable in a changing market.
  • Able to build awareness and demand around a new product or category.
  • A strong communicator with excellent relationship-building skills.
  • Polished and professional without being overly corporate.
  • Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership of a market opportunity.
  • Strategic and capable of seeing the bigger commercial picture.

The Package

  • €80,000–€100,000 base salary.
  • Car or car allowance.
  • 10% employer pension contribution.
  • 24 days’ annual leave.
  • Additional company benefits.

Location

The successful candidate should ideally be based in Leinster, although candidates elsewhere in Ireland will be considered.

The role covers the 26 counties, with some activity across Northern Ireland, and will involve regular travel to customers and branches nationwide.
